Low-Profile Solo Hard Shell Rooftop Tent Built for Adventure

A revolutionary tent, perfect for solo travelers, adventurous overlanders looking to explore any road: the iKamper BDV (Blue Dot Voyager) Solo hardshell rooftop tent. The iKamper BDV Solo is a one person rooftop tent, with a revolutionary design that allows you to purchase it either assembled, or unassembled and assemble it yourself.

The unassembled version of the BDV Solo is $300 cheaper as it’s easier to ship, and if you feel confident enough, you can have a diy assembly on a weekend or spare time. It comes with all the needed instructions to assemble it and mount it onto your vehicle, and it’s not as complicated.

This wedge rooftop tent is perfect to carry more gear next to it over your roof rack. Why? Simple, it’s a single person RTT, the footprint isn’t as big, so there is even space to mount a bicycle next to it (see pictures).

Now let’s take a look at what makes the iKamper Blue Dot Voyager Solo rooftop tent special:

  • Smaller footprint, leaves enough space on the rack to mount a bicycle and even cargo boxes or tanks
  • With an easy-to-handle wedge design, the BDV Solo can open and close in less than 1 minute
  • The ladder can be attached on 3 sides, back, left or right of the tent.
  • Exterior FRP shells with rocky black finish to withstand UV rays and the elements
  • Lowest profile hardshell rooftop tent, at just 6.59 inches tall
  • 4-season rooftop tent
  • Special foam mattress for optimal comfort
  • The tent has accessory rails on the sides to mount gear, as well as crossbars and space to mount other accessories, storage boxes and even solar panels on top

Features

9-Zone Comfort Mattress

What makes the iKamper BDV Solo hard shell rooftop tent better than the rest? Well, let’s begin with the mattress. iKamper completely revolutionized all the mattresses in their tents with a new technology: a 9-zone 2.75” thick polyfoam insulated mattress. Yes, you get to sleep just like at home, enjoying a true night of sleep.

Other tents might have thicker mattresses (although this one is very thick), but the 9 zone comfort feature is truly amazing. Not only does it feel sturdier, but the moment you lay on it, it better adapts to your back, belly or even side of the body. The zones of the mattress better adapt to your whole body, giving you much more comfort.

Given the BDV Solo is a one-person rooftop tent, you won’t be having other people around, and the mattress itself will handle the weight of any body even better. It won’t wear off or change shape as easily with time, rather staying almost as new even with continuous use. It won’t get any better than this!

Less Than 60 Second  Setup

You read that right, this tent opens and closes in less than 60 seconds. It is a wedge rooftop tent, meaning you just open the back side of the tent, and thanks to the support of high-quality side struts (manufactured at iKamper’s factory just like the rest of the tent), you’ll open it quickly. The struts assist you when opening it, and aid in a painless and harmless closing movement for the tent. As to the hinges, they are high-grade stainless steel, basically unbeatable by any element.

Add to that the factor that the ladder can be very easily clipped onto any side of the tent (back, or both sides), and it’s an easier process to open or close it. The reason being, you can climb onto the side of the tent that’s easier and more comfortable for you to open or close it. If you have an awning on the right side, reach the tent from the back or left side, so on and so forth.

Another great thing is that the iKamper Blue Dot Voyager Solo is literally only 6.69” tall when closed. It’s the lowest-profile rooftop tent in the market. That clearly helps against wind resistance and even noise, but what makes it even better is that your vehicle might finally fir in your garage or parking lots, even with the tent over it!

Rooftop Tent With Extra Storage

The ikamper BDV Solo hardshell rooftop tent has a lot of perks, and one of them is extra storage. The tent has accessory rails on all sides of it, which allow you to easily mount other gear to it: shovels, axes, water tanks, lights, you name it. The rails have a pretty standard or universal design, allowing you to mount almost any accessory from any brand.

Add to that two slats that gro from side to side over the tent, with a channel in them, which can be used as crossbars. Other gear can be mounted over them. The great thing is that given these slats are not protruding over the tent’s shell, they produce less noise and resistance, making the design even more aerodynamic.

Last but not least, the outter upper shell are made of an FRP material, great against UV rays, rain, snow or any element, plus they provide even better insulation. Thanks to the slats that “divide” the shell, you can also easily install solar panels over each FRP panel. Talk about ergonomic design!

FAQs

iKamper BDV Solo FAQs:

How many people fit in the BDV Solo?

Only one person will fit. The iKamper BDV Solo hard shell roof top tent is literally a one person tent. You might be able to fit a pet or dog with you, but keep in mind it’s designed for solo travelers.

Is the iKamper BDV Solo compatible with my rack?

Probably yes. This tent can be easily mounted onto most roof racks, crossbars and bed racks. It has all the hardware needed, with traditional rooftop tent rails and different bracket options to choose that can attach to most racks.

Just make sure the bars or slats on which you mount the tent are between 32 to 48” apart.

Also, it’s important to note this tent weighs 150 lbs, meaning you need a roof rack with a dynamic weight capacity (when the car is in motion) of at least 150 lbs.

Can I carry other gear on my rack next to my BDV Solo?

Yes, depending on how big your rack is, and how wide your vehicle is. But the short answer is yes, this tent is only 40.25” wide, so there is enough space for a bike, fishing rods, and even a water tank or cargo boxes.
